Method to know how to fix QuickBooks update error 1706:

You can install and run Microsoft system file checker or Microsoft Fixit tool. Follow these steps.
  • Keep at hand the QuickBooks point of sale installation CD
  • Download System File checker or Fix it from Microsoft site.
  • Install and run it and it will repair Windows system files including .NET framework. 
After this, you must uninstall QuickBooks POS software if it is already installed and reinstall it.
  • Backup existing company files and data files to another folder on your system.
  • Launch control panel and then programs and select QuickBooks POS and uninstall.
  • Uninstall will still leave behind some folders and files. Remove them manually.
  • You can also remove entries from the registry.
  • Now proceed with installation of QuickBooks point of sale software. It should proceed without errors.
  • Once this is done it would be a good idea to check for the latest updates and install them.
  • Restart the system and run POS again.
  • Create a new company file with the name of the company and then restore from the backup file.
  • Verify the data.
  • Close and open POS again, connect to other POS equipment’s.
  • You will need to re-register POS with Intuit.
