You can try one of these approaches to resolving the multi-user mode not working with Enterprise version of QuickBooks:
Approach 1 - When file & program are one same system
Try this approach even when the QuickBooks company file and program are on the same computer.
- Open QuickBooks and click on file menu and then click on open or restore the company.
- Next, you choose a company file which is a file with .qbw extension and click next
- In the open a company window that opens you click on open in multi-user mode and select the file you wish to open.
- QuickBooks may ask if you wish to use your computer to host multi-user access. Click on yes.
- Now try opening the company file from another computer in the network.
Please note that multiple computers can be set up to host multi-user access in which case the first computer to start the process becomes the host for the multi-user process.
Approach 2 - Windows firewall setup for multi user
- Remove firewall setting that block access to QuickBooks company files for multi-user.
- Allow exceptions in the firewall and ensure all QuickBooks processes are running and under exceptions.
Approach 3 - QuickBooks database server manager
- If you set up company file on the network server, not all users may be given access to the folder where it is stored.
- In this case, you navigate to the folder through windows explorer and allow sharing and access permission to read and write the company file.
- The system administrator may have to intervene to allow such changes to be made.
- Alternatively, you may try to run scan folder option in QuickBooks database server manager. However, even if you get access then the next day the access may be blocked so you have to run scan folder again.
