If you see error H202 on your screen you can try the following approaches to resolve it.

Approach 1: Verify Hosting
  • Launch QuickBooks and then navigate to file and click on utilities in the menu.
  • You should see host multi-user access in the list and flyout menu.
  • You then access the other computer and run the same process and select the same option.
  • If QuickBooks asks you to close company file then click on yes button.
  • Next, you click on Windows start button and press Windows key+R and type MSC and press enter.
  • Select services tab and scroll until you come to QuickBooks DBXX service. If this is not visible then use database server manager and check that it is installed.
  • If you use QuickBooks through a server check the server to enable hosting.
  • Select QuickBooks DBXX service and make sure the startup type is automatic.
  • Repeat the steps for QBCFMonitor Service and make sure it is put on automatic for startup type.
  • You can also try to edit Windows hosts file on your server to resolve error H202.
You should be able to run QuickBooks in multi-user mode.

Approach 2: QuickBooks File Doctor
Perhaps this is the first step to try.
  • Download QuickBooks file doctor on your server.
  • Install and run it and it will take care of QuickBooks error H202 on its own. If not you can try the above steps in approach 1.
Approach 3: Windows Firewall Settings
If you have an anti-virus program running then stop the services.
  • Start control panel and go to Windows firewall settings.
  • Select an outbound rule and then pick a new rule and select ports and click on next.
  • Pick TCP in local ports box and click next and pick allow the connection and click next.
  • Enter a name in the field and flick on the finish.
  • Do the same for inbound rules.
  • You can run QuickBooks in multi-user mode now.
Approach 4: Share Company File
Do this on the host computer:
  • Create a new folder on desktop or any other area. Give it a name.
  • Right click on the folder icon and in properties set permissions to enable sharing.
  • Now copy the company file from its location (it should have .qbw extension) to this new folder.
  • You should be able to run QuickBooks in multi-user mode.
A more complex may be to check UNC vs Mapped Drive but this could be rather involved & normal users may not be able to perform this operation.

However, the above approaches should help resolve QuickBooks error H202. If you are not successful you are welcome to give us a call and our experts will come to your aid.
