Resolve QuickBooks Error 15311
One series of errors that occurs is the 15xxx series. This usually happens when you are downloading payroll updates or QuickBooks updates. You will see a message “QuickBooks Error 51311: QuickBooks has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” It can cause the active program window to crash and even your QuickBooks may crash. Windows may operate slowly and the computer may momentarily freeze. 

Causes for QuickBooks Update Error 15311

  • Windows registry entries relating to QuickBooks may be corrupt.
  • Virus or malware may have infected your system or QuickBooks and executable files.
  • QuickBooks files may be deleted by some other program
  • Incomplete or corrupt QuickBooks software

Approach 1
  • If other programs are also affected and crash then it is likely there is a malware or virus infection.
  • Scan your PC for system errors and for virus infections.

Approach 2
  • Try fixing Windows Registry. The manual approach may cause issues so download registry cleaner Winthruster.
  • Install and run it and it will automatically fix registry entries issues.
  • This should resolve error 15311 and also speed up your Windows.
  • Do it manually by clicking on the start button and then type command in the search box, hold control and shift and press enter.
  • Agree to the permission by clicking on yes in the dialog box and then type in regedit and press enter key.
  • Select Error 15311 related key in QuickBooks section and from the file, menu chooses export and select folder where you want to save the backup key.
  • Pick Selected branch in the export range box and then click on save the file.
  • Then you can proceed with the manual registry edit if you are familiar with the process. 
 Approach 3
  • Use a disk cleanup utility like WinSweeper to clear out temporary files and folder or use windows disk cleanup tool.
  • This will remove temporary files that cause conflicts that result in QuickBooks error 15311.
  • Run windows explorer and then pick C drive and right click on properties and, in the window that opens, click on general and then disk cleanup and then on OK. 
Approach 4
  • Open windows explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks and right click on QBW32.exe and select properties and click on the digital signature tab. Check that Intuit Inc is chosen from the list.
  • Click on details and view certificate and when it opens you click on install certificate.
  • Click next and then on Finish and restart the computer.
  • Try downloading the update. It should work.
