Approach 2
Sometimes the issue may be simple such as you are not running QuickBooks in administrator mode. Switch it on by:

  • Go to desktop and right click on QuickBooks icon
  • Select Run as administrator
This should fix the problem in most cases.

Approach 3
Move company file from its present location to a new folder you create on C:\ to enable access from other computers on the network.

Approach 3
Always launch QuickBooks first and then open the company file. Do not attempt to open the file by double-clicking on it.

Approach 4
A simple way is to use the QuickBooks file doctor to fix the issue.
  • File doctor may exist in your system in the form of a green icon on the desktop. However, it is best to go to the Intuit site and download the latest version of file doctor.
  • Once downloaded you double click on qbfd.exe and follow instructions.
  • Find a company file from the drop-down list and select network connectivity only if the file is to be used in the networked environment. Follow prompts.
  • Allow sharing, pick servers.
  • Close file doctor after diagnosis is complete.
  • Launch QuickBooks again and see if file opens.
Approach 5
Sometimes the issue may be a firewall block that can be resolved this way:
  • Launch control panel and windows firewall to see firewall and internet security settings.
  • You need to pick QuickBooks .exe files and add them to the exception list. However, if you run File Doctor then it does this automatically for you.
  • If BitDefender is installed then open it and select antivirus.
  • Pick a custom level and then exclude path from the scan and then click a new item button
  • Select the UNC path or mapped drive that leads to the company file such as C:\..\. QuickBooks files usually reside in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks Company Files\.
The problem should be resolved with any of the approaches outlined above. Still, if you find that the error persists there may be another cause. You are welcome to get our help by phoning our technical support staff for assistance.
